Eaton has announced plans for a new medium-voltage switchgear manufacturing facility in Bellevue, near Omaha, Nebraska, to serve data-center, utility and industrial customers.
Facility details
The company plans to invest more than $30 million in the 370,000-square-foot site. Production of air-insulated and gas-insulated switchgear is expected to begin in the first half of 2027.
Eaton expects the project to create more than 200 engineering, manufacturing and production jobs. Existing employees from the company’s current Omaha operation will transfer to the new location over time.
Focus on repeatable power systems
Eaton says the engineered-to-order switchgear can be integrated into prefabricated power systems. This approach is aimed at customers that want modular, scalable designs and more predictable deployment schedules, particularly for large data-center programs.
Why it matters
Data centers require large amounts of switchgear, but speed should not reduce design control. Repeated configurations can improve manufacturing efficiency only when ratings, protection philosophy, arc-resistant requirements, auxiliary supplies, interfaces and documentation are standardized carefully.
The announcement is also notable because it covers both AIS and GIS production. These technologies have different manufacturing, assembly and test requirements, so the actual capacity benefit will depend on the product mix and qualification of the new lines.
