Lucy Group has completed the acquisition of 100 percent of Nuventura GmbH, the Berlin-based developer of dry-air gas-insulated switchgear for primary medium-voltage applications.
Technology added to the portfolio
Nuventura introduced a 36 kV dry-air GIS and later developed a 24 kV version. Its patented technology includes a circuit breaker and three-position disconnector optimized for SF₆-free applications up to 36 kV. The company says the design maintains connectivity even at zero overpressure.
Nuventura will become part of Lucy Electric, Lucy Group’s low- and medium-voltage power-distribution business. Lucy Electric already has experience with SF₆-free secondary-distribution equipment; the acquisition extends its reach into primary switchgear and Continental Europe.
Why the timing matters
The transaction comes as European restrictions on new SF₆-containing switchgear begin to apply to specified medium-voltage categories. Utilities and industrial users increasingly need product families that cover both secondary and primary distribution without relying on SF₆.
Engineering perspective
Corporate ownership does not automatically make product platforms interchangeable. Customers should still verify ratings, bus and cable interfaces, protection options, internal-arc classification, pressure concept, type-test scope and local service arrangements for the exact equipment offered.
The strategic significance is broader: a specialist technology can gain access to a larger manufacturing, sales and service network, potentially accelerating adoption beyond pilot projects.
