Product scope
Multilin 850 is GE Vernova’s distribution feeder protection, control and monitoring platform. The 850D variant is designed to protect and control up to two distribution feeders.
Verified capabilities
Official product information identifies metering and recording of AC signals, feeder and breaker health monitoring, programmable logic and coordination functions. GE Vernova also publishes current training material for IEC 61850 GOOSE messaging.
Engineering interpretation
A dual-feeder device may reduce panel space and hardware count, but it can introduce a common-device dependency between feeders. Protection philosophy, maintenance isolation, I/O segregation and failure impact must be reviewed explicitly.
Specification caution
Confirm the exact 850/850D hardware, firmware, function set, communications and redundancy. Do not infer that all 8 Series features are included in every 850 configuration.
