Product scope
CMC 500 is OMICRON’s modular multi-phase protection test set and commissioning platform. The manufacturer positions it as the successor to the CMC 356, CMC 353 and CMC 256plus.
Verified capabilities
The official page states configurations with up to seven voltage and ten current outputs. It supports testing from high-burden electromechanical relays to IEC 61850 IEDs, with modules for GOOSE, MMS and Sampled Values. OMICRON also publishes an optional single-phase high-current injection capability up to 450 A for signal-path checks.
Engineering interpretation
The modular variants differ in precision, power and channel arrangement; “up to” values must not be treated as one universal configuration. Select by simultaneous burden, low-current accuracy, binary I/O, low-level interfaces, digital protocols, safety and software workflow.
What is not proven by the headline
Protocol support does not prove project interoperability, and channel count does not prove simultaneous amplitude or burden. Require a configuration-specific demonstration using representative relay settings and SCL files.
