Siemens has inaugurated a new Electrification and Automation factory in Egypt to localize production of switchgear and associated grid-control technologies for Egypt and nearby markets.
What the facility will produce
According to Siemens, the factory will manufacture switchgear, substation control and monitoring systems, protection systems and solutions with embedded cybersecurity. The site also includes a Customer Experience Center for digital-twin and IoT-based energy-management demonstrations.
A Siemens Power Academy is located at the same facility. The company says the academy will train professionals in the design, operation and maintenance of modern electrical infrastructure, bringing training closer to live production and product demonstrations.
Regional role
The investment is intended to shorten supply chains and support Egyptian EPC companies serving transmission, distribution and renewable-energy projects. Siemens links the project to Egypt’s target of reaching 45 percent renewable energy by 2028 and to the country’s industrial-localization strategy.
Why it matters
Switchgear capacity depends on more than assembly space. Local engineering, protection expertise, testing capability, cybersecurity integration and trained service personnel all influence delivery quality and lifecycle support. Combining these functions at one site can make regional project execution more predictable, although product-specific ratings, certification scope and delivery capacity must still be confirmed for each project.
